KAYATIBU IN LISBON

KAYATIBU EM LISBOA – Art Kaizen – The KAYATIBU are a musical group of young indigenous Hunikuin people from the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, whose work anchors a cultural research centre in the municipality of Jordão, in the state of Acre, near the border with Peru. This is where they live, study, teach, and transform their own tradition of art, spirituality, and medicine.

The music of KAYATIBU is based on the millenary traditions of the Hunikuin culture, added to more recent influences acquired through contact with other peoples, creating a sound amalgam of great power and energy. Armed with their guitars and their voices, but also experimenting with fusions with the electric guitar, bass, and other instruments, they produce music with a forest rock flavor, raw, powerful, and hypnotic. Their songs sometimes sound more punk, sometimes more lyrical, enveloping the listener in a ceremonial aura, with thrilling choruses and unusual grooves.

In 2022, they did their first international tour in trio format, performing some of the songs that will be on their upcoming album, “NI HUI”, which means “Voice of the Forest” in hatxa-kuin, their native language.

The album was recorded and produced at Kayatibu’s headquarters in Jordan by Luiz Gabriel Lopes, who also joins the backing band on stage and acts as musical director.
